Growth & Change, Therein & Within

April 25, 2023

Beloved:
Thank you so much for the space of a whole week to myself.  I slept and slept.  I played with my grandgirl.  I pruned my shrubs, remembering Jesus’ suggestion to give my pitiful rhododendron more love, rather than the ax.  But most of every day I sat in my cozy living room, staring at nothing in particular and untangling some of the worries that have knotted up my head and heart.  None of my problems are solved, but I am more ready to face them, and my yard is shaping up, so all in all I consider it a good week away from church.
While I’d love slightly warmer air, I’ll be sweating soon enough, so I’m trying not to complain.  A sweatshirt suffices for our morning walks and, while I’d like a bit warmer air, it will be hot as blazes soon enough, so I’m not going to complain.  The trees and other people’s flowerbeds are full of color, and that beauty boosts me into the day.  Aren’t we so blessed that the world keeps turning no matter how we feel?  The days come at us no matter what and with them the turning of the season with the growth and change therein.  And within, don’t you know?  God is surely at work in my heart and head, and yours, no matter how we think or feel at any given moment.  How else to explain why my heart beats and my blood flows without my direction?  Is not Life equally at work in the mechanics of my thoughts, my feelings and my spirit?  All kinds of change is in the manufacturing stage somewhere within this body and life of mine – and yours.  The work, as I understand and want to practice it, is to trust:  trust that healing happens, however slowly; trust that the truth is the truth no matter what; trust that love always wins, even when there are big losses along the way.
My children, my church and my friends are the greatest blessings of my life.  I’d be altogether lost without you.  I pray the day is kind to you in every way.  Don’t miss the chance to be kind as you go.

Beloved:
Here is Holy Week.
The cross, the grave, the sky.
Through which we understand our whole lives.
All we do and all this is done to us.
Lighting every moment, hour and day.
Easing every sorrow.
Infusing every joy.
I pray the Light is with you as we traverse the time together.

~peace & prayers,
pastor Annette
