All Better Together

Beloved:
          What a precious, precious weekend we had together with our guests from Dayton, Ohio.  Reverend Jeff Perkins preached in the morning service, a deeply encouraging word about redemption after heartbreak.  In the afternoon we had the great privilege of affirming his ordination and his ministry career.  He and his husband, Michael, are a delightful couple and I loved, loved, loved having them as my first houseguests in my new place.  They already seem like old friends.
          Of course they were over the moon about what a great congregation you all are too.  The hospitality and kindness, the warmth and the faith that met them at the door and filled the space.  A hidden jewel is what someone called UBC years ago and, naturally, I love it.  My dream is that we build on our reputation as a hospitable, joyful, justice-seeking congregation living our gratitude for the grace we have discovered in Jesus Christ.
          Holy Week begins this Sunday.  We’ll wave palms as we sing, marking Jesus' final entry into Jerusalem.  Our Good Friday Service begins at 7:30 pm, our traditional service of Tenebrae, or service of darkness, in which the passion of Jesus is read and sung.  Easter Morning we begin our Easter Feast at 9:30 followed by the Resurrection Celebration.  You can sign up to bring a dish to the feast on a poster in the church foyer, by calling the church office, or by using the link to the online signup chart.  More details about Easter Sunday will be forthcoming soon.
